COC-PHINMA (formerly Cagayan de Oro College) is a private, non-sectarian institution of basic and higher learning founded by a group of civic-minded professionals in 1947. It was re-established in 2005 by Phinma Education Network (PEN), a member of the Phinma Group of Companies, upon its acquisition of the school.
In the spirit of service, Phinma Education Network aims to break down the financial barriers to accessing the highest standards in education to enable more Filipino families to send their children through college. It also envisions its students to reach beyond themselves and expand their horizons; thus, equipping them to face life’s challenges ahead.
To ensure that COC-PHINMA’s mission is fulfilled, the college of engineering, nursing, criminology, arts and sciences, management and accountancy and education as well as the institute of technology offer academic programs which respond to the ever-changing demands of the global community. Furthermore, COC offers a comprehensive scholarship program and provides flexible student loans.
With COC-PHINMA and the competent and passionate people behind it, we envision that life can be better, ensuring that our top priority is to make our students’ success within reach.

December 18, 2010 marks another milestone for Cagayan de Oro College – PHINMA as this was the day that a very significant event was launched, an event that concretizes COC-PHINMA’s quest for excellence.
This remarkable day was the day that Dr. Neric Acosta came to COC-PHINMA to teach the subject on Leadership for Educational Excellence. This subject is being offered to teachers coming from both public and private schools who are taking up their Masters or Doctorate degrees in Education. The subject is being given by COC-PHINMA’s Institute of Professional Studies.
Dr. Neric Acosta is an experienced legislator, an educator, an ardent advocate of the environment, and an international scholar. He was formerly the Secretary General of the Liberal Party and served as representative of Bukidnon province in Northern Mindanao to the House of Representatives
Dr. Neric’s passion for education has earned for him various scholarships. After completing his BA in Political Science from the University of the Philippines, Dr. Neric went on to complete an MA in Public Affairs (International Relations and Political Studies concentration) from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Hawaii as an East West Center Scholar. He has attended the special programs Leaders in Development (1999) and Environmental Economics (2002) at the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University.
This passion for education also paved the way for him to establish the Northern Bukidnon Community College for the Lumad and scholars. He has continued his quest for educational excellence by imparting his knowledge and experience to the young and the not-so-young ones by teaching in various schools and universities which now includes our beloved school, Cagayan de Oro College – PHINMA.
